Right people in the right places

Running a successful business requires many moving parts to work in harmony. One of the most important aspects of a successful business is having the right people in the right places. This means that each member of your team should have the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to excel in their role.

When it comes to building your team, it's important to take a strategic approach. This means identifying the key positions within your organization and being intentional about who you hire to fill those roles. It's also important to have a clear understanding of the skills and qualities that are necessary for success in each position. I can recall a meeting as clear as day that I had with my then CEO when I was first announced as COO of our organization. His words of wisdom, which he emphasized was, "make sure you have the right people in the right seats." He went on to explain that this will make or break me in the future to come.

Once you have identified the key positions within your organization, it's time to start recruiting. This means crafting job descriptions that accurately reflect the skills and experience required for each role, as well as being transparent about the expectations for the position.

When evaluating candidates, it's important to look beyond their resume and consider their personality, work style, and values. This will ensure that each member of your team is not only skilled but also aligned with your company's vision and mission.

Once you have hired the right people, it's important to provide them with the support and resources they need to excel in their role. This means investing in training and development programs, providing regular feedback and coaching, and creating a positive and supportive work environment. Ultimately, having the right people in the right places is essential for building a successful business. By taking a strategic approach to building your team and investing in their growth and development, you can create a workplace culture that fosters innovation, collaboration, and long-term success.
